Surface Representation as a Boundary- valued PDE Problem

چکیده
Surface representation as a boundary-valued problem of partial differential equations (PDE) is an important topic of computer graphics and computer aided design. In existing references, various free-from surfaces were created with a fourth order PDE which is only able to meet the tangential conditions at the surface boundaries. The need for a sixth order PDE in surface modelling arises in two situations: one is to generate surfaces with curvature continuity; and the other is to use curvature values as a user handle for surface shape manipulation. In this chapter, we introduce such a sixth order PDE for free-form surface generation and develop a finite difference method to solve this PDE. We also investigate the effects of boundary curvature and the vector-valued shape parameters on the surface shape.

Bifurcation in a variational problem on a surface with a constraint
We describe a variational problem on a surface under a constraintof geometrical character. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence ofbifurcation points are provided. In local coordinates the problem corresponds toa quasilinear elliptic boundary value problem. The problem can be consideredas a physical model for several applications referring to continuum medium andmembranes.
متن کاملFree and constrained equilibrium states in a variational problem on a surface
We study the equilibrium states for an energy functional with a parametric force field on a region of a surface. Consideration of free equilibrium states is based on Lyusternik - Schnirelman's and Skrypnik's variational methods. Consideration of equilibrium states under a constraint of geometrical character is based on an analog of Skrypnik's method, described in [P. Vyridis, {it Bifurcation in...
متن کاملGeneralized Partial Differential Equations for Interactive Design
This paper presents a method for interactive design by means of extending the PDE based approach for surface generation. The governing partial differential equation is generalized to arbitrary order allowing complex shapes to be designed as single patch PDE surfaces. Using this technique a designer has the flexibility of creating and manipulating the geometry of shape that satisfying an arbitra...
متن کاملParametric Representation of Facial Expressions on Pde-based Surfaces
Parameterisation of facial expressions on PDE surface representations of human faces are presented in this work. Taking advantage of the boundary-value approach inherent to Bloor-Wilson PDE method, facial expressions are achieved by manipulating the original boundary curves. Such curves are responsible for generating a surface representation of a human face in its neutral configuration, so that...
متن کاملMethod of Boundary based Smooth Shape Design
The discussion in this paper focuses on how boundary based smooth shape design can be carried out. For this we treat surface generation as a mathematical boundary-value problem. In particular, we utilize elliptic Partial Differential Equations (PDEs) of arbitrary order. Using the methodology outlined here a designer can therefore generate the geometry of shapes satisfying an arbitrary set of bo...
